Between Friends believes in the values of fun and connection. We are working towards helping create inclusive communities where people with disabilities reach their individual potential and are recognized as valued citizens.
Between Friends provides unique opportunities for individuals with disabilities to have social interaction with peers who may or may not have a disability, through programming that is inclusive and accessible.
Between Friends is always looking for more people to become part of our organization. We provide several avenues for people to get involved with us including exciting employment and volunteer opportunities, membership options and events to attend.
Between Friends could not exist without our amazing funders and donors. We are so thankful for the support we receive. There are many ways to give to Between Friends and our programs. Your support goes a long way in helping people with disabilities to connect, grow and belong.
Volunteer with Between Friends… Help create inclusive and accessible communities
Volunteering with Between Friends is fun and rewarding. If you are enthusiastic and looking to make a difference in the community, our volunteer program provides you with the tools, resources, and support needed to get involved. Between Friends will work with you to match your talents and interests to available positions.
Our volunteers have the opportunity to be involved in many areas of Between Friends’ work throughout Calgary. Between Friends carefully screens and selects individuals who are trustworthy, capable, positive role models, enthusiastic, and talented.
We have opportunities for many different types of volunteers:
Volunteers: volunteers who are 16 years of age or older are able to volunteer in all of our opportunities. See below for our current volunteer opportunities.
Junior Volunteers: volunteers between the ages of 12-15 are welcome to join us at Camp Bonaventure during July and August.
Volunteers in Training (VIT): VITs are Between Friends members who are 16 years of age or older, and are learning the skills to become independent volunteers. VITs can support in W.E.S.O.A.R! And Camp Bonaventure. To learn more about our VIT program, visit our VIT page.
Corporate Volunteering: corporate professional who are wanting to volunteer to help their community are encouraged to apply. For more information about corporate volunteering, check below!
Eligible Volunteers must:
Allow a security clearance and vulnerable sector check to be completed on them by the City of Calgary Police (at no charge to the volunteer)
Allow a Child Welfare Background Check to be completed on them by the Alberta Children’s Services. Volunteers who have any involvement in the Child Welfare System may be dismissed.
Be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, as per the Between Friends Board approved company policies. Please see the Government of Alberta’s website to define what is considered to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in the province of Alberta and to determine vaccination status.
With my volunteering I learned the biggest lesson of my life: I CAN do things, make a difference, and people are actually grateful that I am there. I don’t see myself anymore as that poor kid with a disability but I have something very special, a ‘ME-ABILITY.’ I can help as much as possible and that makes our community a better place.
